Follow the steps below to check the firmware and also to upgrade the firmware.
To check the Firmware you will need to have installed the Topcon software PCCDU, which is available at the bottom of this article.
When you have installed the PCCDU software you can check the Board type and Firmware version by following the steps below.
Check whether there is a toggle switch labelled “Port 3” on the back of the LD2/LD2S.
If there is, set it to the up position (GPS) and connect a 9 way D serial cable from the “P3” connector to a free COM port on the PC.
If no “Port 3” toggle switch is fitted, connect a 9 way D serial cable from the “P5” connector to a free COM port on the PC.
Note: If possible, use COM1 on the PC. If a different port is used, some operations may proceed very slowly.
Click on the PCCDU icon to start the program and select the COM port used on the PC:
When connected select Help > About:
The “Receiver model” is shown on the top line:
Current “Turbo” board
Before installing the firmware check the firmware version that is currently installed.
The “Firmware version” is shown on the third line.
Note: The current version of firmware are 3.4p4 for non – Turbo (Euro-112) and 3.5 for Turbo (Euro- 112t) boards.
You will need to download the Topcon card firmware and then install it using floader to upgrade the firmware. The steps below help this process.
Download the relevant Firmware depending on your card type and extract to a folder on your PC.
If the user has a Euro-112t card the board version will be HGGDT_x, the receiver model is a HGGDT and the firmware can be downloaded here.
If the user has a Euro-112 card, the board version will be HE_GGD_x (or E_GGD_x), the receiver model is a HE_GGD (or E_GGD) and the firmware can be downloaded here.
The software that is required to upload the firmware to the receivers can be downloaded here.
When you have downloaded and installed the software run the Floader.exe file.
(PCCDU must be closed before opening Floader)
Connect the serial interface as previously described for PCCDU and select the appropriate port in Floader:
When you have selected the communication port, click on the Program tab
In the Capture Method select Soft Break Capture:
From the “RAM File” option, click Browse and locate the extracted folder that contains the firmware that you earlier extracted.
Select the file ramimage.ldr and click Open:
From the “Flash File” option, click on Browse to locate and open the folder that contains the firmware that you earlier extracted:
Select the file main.ldp and click Open:
Once you have selected both files, click on the Load button.
The selected firmware will be uploaded
When complete close the Floader.exe application
Click Connect. (the program will search the baud rates and match port connected to 38400):
Once PCCDU has successfully connected, satellite information will be displayed in the main window.
Select Configuration – Receiver from the main menu:
Note: There will be a delay before the window opens, especially when not using COM1
Select the Ports Tab and ensure the following port parameters are set:
The “Positioning Mode” and “Enable Solutions” settings on the “Positioning” and “Rover” tabs should also be checked. If necessary, change them to match the settings shown below. If changes are made, click “Apply” for each individual tab:
When all settings are correct, click OK to return to the main window.
Select File > Manual Mode
Send the following commands to the receiver
Click Exit to return to the main window
Select File – Exit from the main menu to close the application.
